Have you met Issy?

Issy grew up in rural Surrey. She describes herself as that annoying loud kid in school who distracted everyone else by doing S Club 7 dance routines while they were quietly reading.

After graduating, Issy worked for a year in Oil & Gas, but felt that it wasn’t really the industry for her. Then one night, after having eaten a whole pot of peanut butter, she started Googling HR/recruitment roles in companies that seemed better suited to her personality. When she came across Periscopix she instantly felt that it was a company that genuinely cares about its employees.

Tell us five random facts about yourself:

  1. I love hummus and have dipped nearly every food imaginable into it. It tastes good with pretty much anything, except grapes - that wasn't a great combo.
  2. I have been terrified of sharks since watching Jaws at the age of 8.
  3. My biggest fear as a child was E.T coming out of my wardrobe. (It's yet to actually happen).
  4. I am part Italian, and part Polish.
  5. I can't eat diary, sugar, gluten or eggs.

What did you study at university?

I studied Drama at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

When you graduated from University did you know that you wanted to work in recruitment?

Not at all. I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do. Initially, I wanted to be an actress, then a teacher, then run my own drama school. I fell into recruitment when Googling jobs that involved working closely with people.

How did you get the job at Periscopix?

I saw the job for an HR/Internal Recruitment Internship advertised on The Guardian Jobs site. After reading the job spec I was extremely interested so I decided to do some research on the Company and the role. I loved the sound of Periscopix and called up to ask some remaining questions I had regarding the job spec. I asked for Tash (our resident Recruitment Manager) and was given a phone interview and then a face to face interview the following week. To my delight, I got the internship the next day. I couldn’t believe my luck when I was offered the chance to become a permanent Periscopian!

Why did you choose to work at Periscopix over other companies?

I was completely drawn in by their understanding of a work/life balance. Having previously worked extremely long hours, sometimes from 8am til 8pm, I knew the value of a 9am til 5.30pm working day. It creates an atmosphere at work where everyone is focused and hardworking during core hours instead of exhausted. This is reflected in the quality of work our teams produce for our clients and our high ranking in The Times Top 100.

What do you love most about working at Periscopix?

The Company culture! Everyone says it, but it's true. The people make this Company what it is. Everyone is hard working and focused but also kind and fun. We put huge emphasis on knowledge sharing and everyone really does share what they know and help others wherever they can. It's a really awesome team to be a part of.

What advice would you give to a budding applicant?

Do your research, know what the role is and what you will be doing on a day to day basis, and be prepared for some technical questions. It's also essential to be yourself in the interview. It's as much of a chance for you to check us out as it is for us to get to know you! Make sure you leave having answered any questions you may have about us for the role.

What do you look for from a candidate?

Someone who has really researched the role they are going for and shows genuine interest in what they have learnt and discovered from their research.
