“If I give you a penny, then you’re a penny richer and I’m a penny poorer, but if I give you an idea, then you will have a new idea but I’ll have it too.”

Eric Schmidt

Steven is one of few Periscopians who can identify as a genuine ‘Northener’ (i.e. not just further north than the M25), as his entire family are from the industrial town of Preston – a place that Steven says he has a ‘love hate relationship’ with. As a child, Steven was a naturally sporty and inquisitive child who had an inherent interest in history, spending hours upon hours browsing Wikipedia pages, presumably editing/defacing the Preston page based on that day’s mood…

Steven naturally went on to study History at the University of Lancaster and his dissertation actually led him to uncover some highly interesting information about his grandfather’s time as a POW. Following on from this, Steven undertook a Masters in Management, where his naturally entrepreneurial streak led to him founding his own Retirement Plans start-up. Whilst at university, Steven also dipped his toes into the backpacking world, but not in the generic ‘gap year’ destinations – if you have a spare 10 minutes, ask him about his intrepid explorations into Crimea…

Moving into the world of work, Steven trialled the very mutually exclusive worlds of both Sales and Archiving. The Archiving socials got a bit too wild for him, but Steven’s various passing encounters with PPC throughout his career led him to the realisation that this was what he wanted to do for a living. In his spare time, you can find Steven chatting about American politics or inhaling foreign news – don’t be surprised to catch him walking around with a copy of ‘Del Gazzetta de Preston’ any time soon.
