Born and bred in Germany, Rieka’s childhood was spent in the mountain village of Herzberg, which translates as Heart Mountain. It is here that she developed her love of music, learning to play the piano when she was five, and then the flute, followed by the clarinet and finally teaching herself to play the saxophone. Her musical prowess does not stop here however, at 16 she spent three years as lead singer in a band named Evermind (Nevermind was already taken…) until leaving the band to move abroad and for her sister’s 18th Birthday she wrote her a song (cards are so overrated).
Comfortably fluent in the language of music, bilingualist Rieka can speak German, English, and French which became extremely helpful in the study of her BSc and BBus in International Business. Beginning her degree at Hannover University, she did a six month internship for a Non Profit Organisation in Johannesburg where she worked in an office with some vegetable gardening for underprivileged schools and communities thrown in, resulting in a perfectly varied workload. Ever the jetsetter, she did six months in Munich, and a year in Carlow, the second smallest county in Ireland. Just 80km south of Dublin, the town hosts 7,000 students and just 13 pubs in its tiny proximity; nothing stayed secret for long.
After her degree, Rieka headed to Boston to work as an Au Pair, studying Micro Finance at Harvard for six months where she met her French boyfriend. Her country hopping ways (she’s lived in five countries in as many years) have given her a somewhat undefinable accent with little hints of Irish and South African here and there.
Her interest for the world of digital was secured during an internship in online marketing for a luxury jewellery retailer in Munich but it was her Bachelor’s thesis in Social Media that really captured her passion. Having flown in from Boston for the interview, she was quick to land herself a role in our Paid Social department with her exhaustive list of talents and ready knowledge of all things Social.
