Site Overlay: Out! In-Page Analytics: In!
18th October 2010 Posted in Analytics
Google Analytics has removed the clunky “Site Overlay” report from the interface and replaced it with a snazzy new report called “In-Page Analytics”. This report offers GA data in the context of your website and allows you to visualise the data normally seen in a Navigation report.
In-Page Analytics shows a page on your site (starting with your homepage) with percentage figures in bubbles, around every link on that page. These percentages equate to the proportion of visitors who clicked on that link. You can click through the actual links on your page to view the In-Page Analytics report for that page.
You can find this report as a sub-section of the Content report, as a link on any other Content report or as a link when viewing a specific page’s performance. Another neat aspect of In-Page Analytics is that if you are logged in to Google Analytics, you can open another tab, open your website and view the data in that window too.
See below for an annotated screenshot of In-Page Analytics:
Although still in Beta, we have high hopes for this report, and are looking forward to seeing how this develops. If nothing else, this initial version addresses the problems that we have been experiencing for years with the Site Overlay report (at least it works!). If any new features are rolled out, we’ll let you know!
