Introducing Bing

Bing has arrived - to date a word mostly associated with microwaves, cycle bells and Chandler from Friends, this one syllable word is now the great white hope for Microsoft’s search offering.
Replacing the far more staid sounding ‘Live Search’ Bing - launching June 3rd - promises a new way of searching (I’m sure I’ve heard that one before…) with results organised into categories which Microsoft claim will make finding the answer to your query that bit easier. According to Steve Ballmer (CEO at Microsoft) currently only one in four searches provide the desired answer on the first try - Bing hopes to improve these odds.
We at Periscopix aren’t going to make any rash judgements on Bing until we’ve seen it up & running suffice to say we’re not expecting it to be the David to Google’s Goliath any time soon.
That said, it is always exciting when a new search engine (or in this case a revamped one) enters the fray. The smaller players are always the ones to make the bolder changes & take the bigger risks in terms of format & function simply because they can afford to - they don’t have huge advertising revenues riding on a tried & tested format. We’ve said before that Google needs more good quality competition, here’s hoping that Bing is it.
We’ll be posting a full review of Bing once it’s up and running, so check back soon.
