Google Instant Fits Ads To Your Screen
16th September 2010 Posted in Search
Whilst doing a routine ad text search I noticed something rather strange. Have a look at the screen shot below (click to enlarge) and see if you can spot it…
The eagle eyed among you may have noticed that the first line of the ad is longer than 35 characters (it’s 38!). After a little fiddling with screen sizes it would appear that an additional feature of Google Instant is the adjustment of the sponsored links to the size of your screen. The next screen shot is the same search with the browser window manually slimmed down (again, click to enlarge).
This time the ad is appearing on three lines…
So, if someone is logged in to Google and if they opt in to using Google Instant, it’s very hard for them to escape the sponsored links!

As far as we can tell this has no real bearing on advertisers other than their carefully crafted ad copy being stretched into a rather lopsided format (this might rile the perfectionists amongst us!).
